Our Company

The origins of Santa Rita go back to the eighties, when Manolo González, “Cuco”, started smoking chorizos and making sausages which were later sold in the Plaza del Sur and to the workers of the Puerto del Musel, in Gijon.

The nineties saw the setting up of Santa Rita as a company in 1991, followed by modernisation and adaptation to European regulations. So, while Cuco and his wife, Maribel Calleja, were planning and undertaking the extension and the introduction of the first machines, his children Ricardo and Nuria, who now run the business, were dividing their time between studying, working, and helping out at home.

This progress led to a wider variety of products and so to a growing number of orders and customers and an increased production, which laid the foundations for the company that Embutidos Santa Rita is today.
